In the beautiful coastal city of Anzio, about 50km’s south of Rome, Pollastrini has produced canned sardines since 1889. The products success lies in the company’s ability to implement more advanced technologies whilst still maintaining those old school tastes that made Pollastrini famous in those early years. All products are made using wild caught Clupea Pilchardus sardines, fished from the Mediterranean Sea. Freshly processed, the head and tail are removed and the fish is gutted (but not filleted), maintaining their shape and beautiful silver skin.
Sardines are a perfect fish as they are low in fat but contain iodine, zinc, iron and phosphorus. Pollastrini Sardines Piccante are packed with olive oil and red chilli peppers, delivering a spicy finish on the palate. They are great in antipasto or tapas and can be tossed through pasta, salads and vegetables or just served with crisp rustic bread.
